Our heritage

We were called on a journey to “something different for us Veterans, out here in civilian life, flapping in the breeze”  in Eastern Washington state, while following the commerce way of making a living.  We- is Ingrid Lorna, being guided by the Grandmothers.  Through process of feeling the call, feeling the need, I- Ingrid Lorna walked away from my very lucrative career, to walk on this journey, with no guarantee of income. Part of the calling was to establish a care farm, once again growing our own food, which we did  on 2 acres with a 150-year-old farmhouse.

We knew we needed a bigger place, and having just claimed bankruptcy due to her PTSD, the only farm loan Ingrid Lorna would qualify for was through the Farm Service Agency (FSA).  December 4, 2014, we loaded our 16-foot budget truck, and the following morning loaded the donkeys and goats into the livestock trailer, put the ducks in their “home” in the bed of our pick-up, and headed towards Oklahoma.  Every time we stopped for gas, or a break, the ducks were talking very loudly, and people would look at us weird, or ask questions!

We made it through the mountains of Montana fine, got to Belgrade that first night, where we stopped at a rest area and slept in the trucks (Ingrid was financing this move on her VA disability income, that the Grandmothers provided ). The next morning, with at least 1 foot of snow on the ground, we started up the trucks, only the Chevy Silverado wouldn’t start!  Calling for a tow truck, revealed the need for two: one for the livestock trailer, and one for the Silverado.  We were so blessed to have a sunny day in Belgrade Montana, December 6, 2014 while we sat at the local dealership waiting to have the truck fixed!  Of course, many questions about the quacking ducks in the truck flew our way!

We spent a month in northern Colorado waiting for our place in Oklahoma to open up.  January 3, 2015 we once again loaded the 16-foot Budget truck, the donkeys, goats and ducks, and headed for Oklahoma! We were blessed to live in a very run-down house on land we thought would start the farm. We had no money to fill the propane tank, plus it leaked; we could afford to drive the 15 miles to McAlester once a month, and we made the best of it. That winter, we spent wrapped in blankets to stay warm, watching movies on our little 13-inch TV on the days we couldn’t be outside.

May 2015 happened to be a very rainy month, showing us that the property was in the floodplain, and wouldn’t be a wise investment, so the search for BWD Ranch started again. August of 2015, we attended the Chamber of Commerce Banquet, showcasing BWD Ranch, without a ranch!

November 20, 2015, we moved into our ranch. BWD Ranch.

April 2016, we hosted a TV crew from The Netherlands (Holland), and just before the November elections, we made our international debut!

We have hosted many iterations of the programs since then with Veterans experiencing success.

As I-Ingrid Lorna learned about the invisible world of the Grandmothers/goddess/god,  I never identified myself has “having herniated lumbar spine discs”, and so my deep intent to follow my calling/destiny, met with the inexhaustible supply of health that is my true state, and I am now free of that dis-ease state.

It was the same with PTSD, as I have walked away from identifying myself as a Combat Veteran with PTSD,  I have uncovered my inherent state of healthy well being, and was able to hear the Grandmothers call me to the awakening of the matrix of belonging- Aloha Ayni Tao living that is my inherent way of being as a whole, perfect complete expression of God/Goddess.

We have evolved from a single family farm with a non-profit to a multi-family/villager land area with many animal villagers, doing our best to live in natural timing, and we invite you to walk the matrix of belonging- Aloha Ayni Tao living into form again!

Cohabitation Dehesas

Dehesa- The word comes from the old growth multifunctional agrosylvopastoral systems of Spain. The dehesas of Spain (Montados in Portugal) are examples of ecosystems where humans play a constructive role, maintaining and improving the landscape to benefit wilderness, all its inhabitants and humans equally. The area of land belongs to the village/cohabitors in common.

Forests seem permanent and natural. Few are. For at least 6,000 years men and women have shaped the woods. The forests as we know them are products of craft/art-ing.

Up until our time a forest was not a wilderness. From it might be harvested timber, firewood, tanbark, charcoal, fence and hurdle poles, splints for wattle, grass to pasture sheep, goats, cattle, horses, bison and more, acorns to fatten hogs, honey from beehives, ink from oak galls. In return, the users left the dung of the grazing animals.

A good dehesa looks like a park. The principal trees are oak, and under the trees are grasses and many more forage plants.

No one gets individually rich on a Dehesa, yet all live well. It requires a complex code of use allied to half a dozen crafts (or more) in a system of care and protection for all who come after. This has been going on since the bronze age and before. Since the Neolithic age crops have been planted among the trees.

Arting/Crafting careers

Working for a living= merely surviving

Career-ing= inspiring for a short time

Art-ing/crafting vocation-ing= awakened radiantly happy living a full filling life.

Since humans began to build and settle down, there have been two versions of the world; the world made with wood, and the world made with coal and oil. One lasted 12 to 15 millenia, the other has lasted about 250 years so far, and is crumbling into non being.

Humans arose through the exercise of memory, reason and skill in a world that was warming and blooming. Memory gave to reason its material and skill proved a thought to be true (or not). Skill suggested a turn of the wrist, memory preserved it, reason compared it.

The human attributes-courage, faithfulness, patience, fortitude, prudence and honor were forged where the faculties met, in the making of home in the world.

Human beings learned from the woods around them. The more the people worked with the oak, the more the oak taught them what it could do.

When we talk about prehistoric Britain we tend to think of Stonehenge. What we seldom realize is that Stonehenge is by no means unique. Most of the henges that have been excavated were largely or entirely made of oak posts.

The shapes and patterns of all the henges are called entropic because it is thought that they were created within the eyes itself.

The human mind grew through the knowledge born of Art, of Craft, and in order to make, our ancestors had to imagine. In order to imagine, they had to make. Between thinking/imagining and making (art-ing/crafting) the world we know emerged.

To imagine and to make (art, craft) are reinforcing pairs that awaken your spirit to life a big talented full-filling life.
